Large fish caught during night fishing trip in Tampa Bay FL

Heavy Leader, Big Fish Payoff

Now this is something you don’t see every day 🧐🤨😂 I’ve seen a lot of gags on my boat, but nothing like this!!

Short-body gag grouper — not something you see every day.

This isn’t a new species, just a natural spinal deformity that happens early in a fish’s life.
It’s uncommon, usually caused by genetics, early developmental stress, or minor injury when the fish is young.
The wild part? They’re healthy, legal, and fight just as hard — most anglers will never cross paths with one.

Basically…
A gag grouper built like a triple tail,
with the posture of a smallmouth bass,
and still thought my bait was a good idea 😂😂😂😂

Natures way of showing character 🎣

Gag grouper caught while fishing in Tampa Bay FL

Rare Short-Body Gag Grouper Caught on Tampa Waters

Hogfish are chewing steady, and the gag grouper population is clearly doing just fine. 😎
Four straight hours of bent rods made room for a fat cooler and some tired arms.

With these cooler temps hanging around, now’s the time to take advantage. The sharks are still thick—yeah, they’ll tax a fish or two on the way up—but don’t worry… Ol’ Slotboy knows the tricks and will show you how to win that fight. 😉

Cold water, hot bite, big smiles, and a cooler that tells the story.
Let’s go put some work in. 🎣

Hunt for Gulf Scallops over Tarpon Springs Seagrass Beds

Florida’s bridges take on a different character after sunset, when lights and shadows create natural feeding areas for nearby game fish. Captain Dillon Arsenault guides guests around this structure while targeting Tarpon, Snook, Grouper, and Snapper using conventional tackle and jigging techniques suited to the conditions. The crew helps beginners understand each method while giving experienced anglers room to refine their approach. Cooler temperatures, fewer boats, and a quieter setting make it easier to concentrate on every movement of the line. One of the most memorable moments can come when a fish strikes near the bridge and immediately uses the surrounding structure to its advantage. This trip is a strong choice for anglers who want a more focused alternative to daytime fishing and the distinctive experience of pursuing Florida species under the night sky.

These powerful fish are known for strong runs that demand patience, steady pressure, and teamwork, making each encounter a true hands-on challenge. 8 hrs

Hold On for a Florida Shark’s First Powerful Run

This extended outing gives Captain Dillon Arsenault more freedom to respond as the tide changes and fish move through Tampa Bay. Instead of being limited to one area or a brief window of activity, the group can explore additional locations and spend more time working promising water. Tarpon, Cobia, and other available species may be targeted according to the conditions, creating a varied experience shaped by what the bay offers that day. Captain Dillon adjusts the techniques and level of guidance to suit the group, helping beginners build confidence while allowing seasoned anglers to focus on refining their approach. The trip also leaves room for conversation, hands-on learning, and a comfortable pace between fishing areas. It is a fitting choice for guests who want a more complete Tampa Bay experience without committing to a full day.

King Mackerel

6 hrs

Work the Changing Tides across Tampa Bay’s Productive Waters

This extended St. Petersburg trip opens the door to a wider mix of fishing environments, from open coastal flats to protected backwater areas. Captain Dillon Arsenault can adjust locations and methods as the tide develops, giving guests time to work different types of water without rushing the experience. Depending on the conditions, the group may pursue Redfish, Snook, Trout, Mackerel, Sheepshead, and other available coastal species. Each area presents a different opportunity, whether that means covering an active flat or slowing down for a careful presentation near sheltered water. Beginners can learn at a comfortable pace, while experienced anglers have time to fine-tune their approach and try more than one technique. This trip suits guests who want a deeper look at St. Petersburg fishing while still enjoying a relaxed and approachable day outdoors.

Fish from St. Petersburg’s Coastal Flats into Quiet Backwaters

This trip carries guests beyond the bay and into Florida’s nearshore Gulf waters, where a broader variety of fish can be found throughout the year. Captain Dillon Arsenault uses his local experience to select productive fishing grounds up to nine miles offshore, creating opportunities to pursue Grouper, Snapper, Mackerel, and other available species. The change in setting is part of what makes this outing stand apart, replacing sheltered flats and backwaters with open-water views and a different style of fishing. Beginners can count on practical guidance from the captain, while experienced anglers can focus on working proven areas and adapting to the day’s activity. With enough offshore reach to experience Gulf fishing without committing to a longer trip, this charter offers a comfortable balance of focused fishing, coastal scenery, and relaxed time with family or friends.

Leave Tampa Bay Behind for the Gulf’s Nearshore Fishing Grounds

Spend a full day fishing Florida’s nearshore state waters, within 9 miles of the coast where Grouper, Snapper, Mackerel, and Kingfish are often found. This extended trip allows time to cover productive areas and fine-tune technique with help from experienced guides. All equipment is included—rods, bait, and tackle—so you can focus on fishing without extra prep. Whether you're looking to fill the cooler or just enjoy the water, this trip offers a solid mix of action and coastal views. The added time gives better chances to target multiple species and adjust as the bite changes. Book now and enjoy a full day of fishing on Florida’s Gulf waters.
